About Kathy’s Show Equipment & Sterling Custom Saddles
Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. They have shaped who I am, the choices I have made, and the life I have built with my family.
My journey in the horse industry started as a young rider, showing through ETI corrals, 4-H, Pinto, and eventually moving into AQHA competition. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to show world champion Paint horses, compete successfully in professional rodeo and barrel racing, and experience many different sides of the horse industry. Each chapter has taught me something new and has given me a well-rounded understanding of what riders, trainers, and horses truly need.
The story of Kathy’s Show Equipment is also a very personal one. As a youth, I had the opportunity to show with Kathy Mezin, and my first horse was purchased from Bob and Kathy Mezin. Years later, when I was ready to step away from working with another competitive company and create something of my own, it felt right to come full circle.
Along with Troy Dial and my sister, Michelle Dancy, I purchased Kathy’s Show Equipment and began the next chapter of this business. What started as a wholesale company eventually grew and evolved, and in 2008 we expanded into retail. Today, Kathy’s Show Equipment and Sterling Custom Saddles continue to be proudly women-owned, family-owned, and family-operated businesses.
For over 30 years, this business has been built around the same thing that has always been at the center of my life — horses.
My daughters, Maddie Montez and Savannah Tinch, have grown up in this industry just as I did and are now an important part of the business alongside me. And now my granddaughter is experiencing the same love of horses and competition. Our family vacations are often horse shows, and you will usually find all of us together — hauling, showing, and being part of the community we love.
This is not just a business we run; it is the lifestyle we live.
One of the things I am most proud of is the incredible team that has helped us build Kathy’s Show Equipment and Sterling Custom Saddles. Many of our employees have been with us for over 25 years, and they are truly part of our family. Their dedication, craftsmanship, and commitment are a huge part of what has allowed us to continue growing.
We have always believed that good equipment should be available to everyone. Not every rider has the same budget, but every rider deserves products they can trust. We create and carry products that meet our standards — using quality materials, thoughtful design, and the knowledge that comes from actually using them ourselves.
One of the reasons we continue to attend horse shows is because we want to stay connected to the people we serve. Yes, we joke that we become “glorified carnies” when we load up our booths and travel from show to show, but being there matters. We are not just watching the industry from the sidelines — we are down in the arena, showing alongside you, working with trainers, listening to riders, and learning what can be improved.
Being involved in the industry keeps us inspired. It helps us continue creating products that fit the needs of today’s riders while honoring the traditions and values that brought us here.
After more than 30 years, my favorite part is still the same: being surrounded by horses, family, and the people who share this passion with us.
